Urban Infill Project

I decided to scrap my entire layout after a great discussion with my group and my instructor. My idea weren't bad, they just weren't an appropriate response to the site. I intent to have 4 floors supported in 4 places One of those 4 places will be the elevator shaft.

Rice Research Facility Boards

On Friday this week my studio section has to finalize our design by creating a digital display. I am experimenting with a new layout and new styles of drawings. I am attempting to use all of the design software that I am now familiar with such as Revit 2011, Autocad 2011, Sketchup Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator. So far it is going well. I will add a few posts displaying my process from the last week. (The boards seem to only be uploading as one giant board instead of the 2x2 layout.) This was my board layout at of March 3, 2012

2nd "Unofficial" Pin-Up

Today we presented our progress so far with an emphasis on structural systems/details.

This drawing was done using a combination of SketchUp, AutoCAD, Illustrator, and hand drawing techniques. As happy as I am, and believe me I love it, this drawing looks it took over 3 hours to do and so I will likely do my project in Revit to allow myself to have all the necessary views. (Thank you Teddy for showing me a much needed AutoCAD command allowing me to keep a large majority of this drawing in vector form)

Our "Unofficial" Pin-Up

We were asked to have our main design idea presentable for the whole class to see to both share our  ideas and receive feedback from others. This was also to serve as the transition between conceiving our designs and constructing our structural models, which will also be posted on the blog next week upon completion.

My Entrance

My entrance had been bothering me and although it was recommended for me to work on floor plans, I couldn't help myself. I had to define my entrance way in a better way before I could allow myself to work on the floor plans. I will end up redesigning my stairs elevator soon as well.

1st Design/Idea Entrance (Jan 23rd, 2012)

I have begun to design the entrance way for my first idea more thoroughly by incorporating structural elements as well as a stair system and an elevator.

I still need to consider the proper place for a receptionist's desk/space and the appropriate ceiling height for this space. With changes in elevation, such as stairways or elevators it is easy to forget that the ceiling height will need to adjust accordingly.
